Your photos are usually of good quality. Technically, but mostly in the artistic sense of the word. Your series of the interior of Boston Lodge old running shed before arrival of the contractor is simply superb. Some photos are not less than a work of art.

Roger, As an O.A.P. living on the Isle of Wight, I don't get up to North Wales at all now. I used to help out with volunteers when Ron Lester was in charge of the permanent way - under Hugh Jones in the late 1950s. Just to see the progress and superb photos you have produced is - to me - really fascinating. The clarity of your pictures is is to be congratulated. Thank you for all your efforts. David

I would venture to suggest that this photo indicates the wall may have been raised at some point. There appears to be a reasonably true horizontal line running across approx 3/4 up the photo. The stone above this point, though similar in proportions to the rest of the wall, appears to be dressed differently and is of a slightly lighter shade.

It would appear so at first sight... but the previous photograph shows large stone blocks at the corners of the building which pass through this 'horizontal' line.

Roger, Many thanks for a superb collection of photographs. As life member of the FRS for over 40 years and having retired to the Isle of Wight, I rarely cross to the 'North Island' so have not seen the FR/WHR for several years, hence it is a delight to see from your pictures, what I read about in the daily ditties from the WHR web-site. I did manage, with difficulty to walk through Cutting Mawr in June 2002 - needing a strong pair of waterproof boots - nice to see it now in its present state. Thanks again, keep up the good photos. Best wishes, David

Well done to F&WHR on preserving these magnificent ex-SAR NGG's! However I have some difficulty in coming to terms with the grey and black colour scheme and the exaggerated lettering. The traditional SAR all-black livery is, for me, how they should be.

The sponsor of the restoration of No.87 has asked for the loco to initially appear in 'photographic grey' livery. After a period of time No.87 will be repainted into 'traditional' SAR livery - again at the sponsor's request...
